A QuickTime clip demonstrating the stages of planet design, and digital paint in Photoshop. The first planet -- Earth -- is a stock model and texture maps from Inspire3D. The maps for the gas giant and alternate terrestrial planet I also painted in Photoshop. The terrestrial planet's surface is actually a distorted and re-colored cutout of Astrotrain's head. The face isn't gray but there he is! Special thanks to Ryan at Seibertron.com for the box photos. Seibertron.com, as part of its Convention & Club Exclusives coverage, has a gallery of dozens of product shots. In Photoshop I corrected the perspective in shots of the box' front, top, bottom and sides, and mapped them to a 3D box animated in Inspire3D. (At the time I did the above animation, I hadn't yet received my very own Astrotrain. Which looks phenomenal in person!) The music is a new Garageband-crafted 1980's homage I created just for this short clip. So far all the Hasbro projects' art has been pre-approved, in concept at least, when I am invited aboard. Despite working closely with the Clubs' Art Director throughout the projects, I still enjoy a great deal of creative flexibility. The painting technique on Astrotrain was a new and challenging effort for me, but I'm ultimately very pleased how it turned out. Plus, c'mon, it's TRANSFORMERS!
